Why does my system filter slowly?

A slower flow is generally normal, especially when first using a new filter. Several factors can influence the filtration speed of your Pure Filter system.

1. Is your filter new? This is often normal

During the first uses, a Coldstream FTO+ filter needs a soaking time before reaching its optimal flow rate.

It is normal for filtration to be slower at the beginning. In some cases, the filter may need up to 45 minutes to soak properly before achieving a smoother flow.

Important: when installing a new filter, we recommend letting about 10 litres of water pass through and then discarding that first water. This naturally rinses the filter.

2. Water temperature can slow down filtration

Very cold water naturally flows more slowly through the filtration system. This is completely normal and can slightly reduce the flow.

3. The water level influences the flow

The system works by gravity. The more water the upper chamber contains, the more natural pressure helps filtration.

A low water level can give the impression that the system filters more slowly.

4. Your filter may need cleaning

Over time, certain mineral deposits, particles or residues naturally present in water can slow down filtration.

In areas where the water is particularly high in limescale, more regular maintenance may be necessary to prevent a thin layer of deposits from reducing the flow.

For maintenance, gently clean the surface of the filter with a clean sponge or a soft brush, using only cold water and no soap.

If the flow remains very low despite cleaning, the filter may have reached the end of its life.

5. Check the priming of the filter

An insufficiently primed filter can sometimes filter more slowly at first.

If the system has just been installed or after a long period without use, give the filter time to soak properly before assessing its flow.

The problem persists?

If your system is still filtering abnormally slowly after these checks, our support team can help you identify the cause of the problem.
