Priming a Coldstream FTO+ filter allows the filter to soak properly in order to achieve optimal flow and effective filtration.
During the first installation, it is normal for the flow to be slower for a short while.
How to prime a Coldstream filter?
- Correctly install the filter(s) in the upper chamber of your Pure Filter system.
- Completely fill the upper chamber with water.
- Let the water flow naturally through the filter into the lower chamber.
- Discard the first few litres of filtered water.
Important: after installing a new filter, we recommend letting about 10 litres of water pass through the system and then discarding that water. This helps remove the fine natural activated carbon particles present in a new filter.
Why does my filter flow slowly at first?
During the first use, a new Coldstream filter may take some time to reach its optimal flow rate.
A soaking time of up to 45 minutes may be needed before a normal flow is achieved. This is completely normal and can vary depending on the quality of the water used.
Small black particles: is this normal?
Yes. Coldstream filters contain a natural form of activated carbon. During the first filtrations, you may notice a few fine black particles in the water.
This is temporary and disappears after the initial rinsing of the filter.
